NOW OPEN | EVENTS MANAGER

BACKGROUND

Terrain is a grassroots nonprofit organization that believes everyone needs art — and that a more just and vibrant Spokane is possible through creativity, economic opportunity, and the collective action of everyone who dares to create.

We focus on:

  • Building community through art and creativity,

  • Supporting artists and the arts,

  • Advocating for the arts, and

  • Nurturing creative businesses

Our programs include large-scale, annual events highlighting hundreds of artists and attracting thousands of attendees (Terrain, Bazaar, BrrrZAAR); a retail storefront showcasing 120+ local artists (From Here); a gallery space that is one of the most well-loved galleries in the region (Terrain Gallery + Annex), an art-driven beautification program (Window Dressing); a professional development program for artists (Creative Enterprise); a bi-monthly workshop series for arts-based businesses (Terrain Talks); and community projects like Spokane’s BLM mural and This is East Central.

In fact, Terrain began 17 years ago with what we thought would be a one-night-only celebration — and we’ve been throwing epic events ever since! So, if you love Spokane, enjoy bringing the community together in creative and meaningful ways, and believe art can transform the world, this job might be for you!

THE POSITION

The Events Manager is a spreadsheet lovin’ logistics nerd who thrives on internal administrative duties as much as they flourish working with a variety of external partners. The Events Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of Terrain events.

Examples of the day-to-day:

  • Creating and maintaining event timelines, schedules, and budgets in Basecamp and Google Drive.

  • Serving as the primary point-of-contact for events and working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and vendors

  • Providing on-the-ground oversight for event set-up, maintenance, and teardown

  • Booking and managing vendors (for food/beverages, technical needs, and more)

  • Being responsible for compliance (such as applying for city and state permits)

Working alongside Terrain’s Executive Director Ginger Ewing and Operations Director Jackie Caro, the Events Manager will join a cooperative work environment where responsibility is shared, and employees feel empowered, respected, and heard.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including expert use of Google Drive and Basecamp.

  • Anticipates needs, solves problems under pressure, and manages competing priorities

  • Completes tasks thoroughly, often as the last to leave the event

  • Leads team by example with a “no task too small” attitude

  • Availability to work events on evenings and weekends

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) non-exempt position with a starting salary of $50,000 per year. This hybrid position will require significant on-site work at Terrain’s office at 304 W. Pacific Ave., Suite 210, Spokane, WA and event venues, with some remote work and schedule flexibility possible in alignment with both the event calendar and team schedule. In lieu of benefits, this position offers a $500 monthly stipend to be used towards medical and other living expenses. Terrain also offers holiday & PTO at 3-weeks paid vacation per year (i.e. 15 business days) after 60 days of employment, as well as paid time off for major holidays including paid vacation from December 25th-January 1st. Terrain also offers accrued sick leave, paid family and medical leave, and unpaid military leave.
