About the Show:

This collection of artworks represents an exploration of the origins of ideas and their manifestation in Deb's art. Within this collection, Deb has pursued these concepts using various mediums like paint, paper, coffee, stencils, and sculptural materials. The range is as diverse as the spectrum of ideas themselves.

About the Artist:

Deb has been painting throughout her entire life, primarily teaching herself along the way. Over the years, her artistic voice has echoed the different stages of her life's journey. From launching a business on her own in her early twenties, to getting married, becoming a parent, and most recently, experiencing the loss of both a dear friend and her husband. He was a sculptor, and art was the core of their shared existence. Deb believes it was this focus that heightened her sensitivity to ideas and "sparks" that would eventually evolve into art. She is known to gather scraps of paper discarded along her path, along with rocks, feathers, and once, even a perfect brown moth - all the essentials for her creative process. She even dreams about art, devoting the first half hour after waking to painting in her mind, envisioning the piece she's currently working on. To her, this is not odd or supernatural, but rather, a way of being fully open to the process of creation. What continually astounds her is how the necessary elements for a work always seem to appear. It might be a specific paint or type of paper she's never used before that's just right. Or, as of late, a piece of text from a cracker box that started as road debris but, once cleaned and trimmed, turned out to be the perfect addition to a painting. The art featured in this show has undergone the entire journey from spark to provision, and for Deb, has ultimately become art.
